The Standards and Guidelines for the Conservation of Historic Places in Canada are a best practice approach to large and small conservation projects. They are the result of a nationwide cooperation and collaboration of experts in all fields of heritage and offer stewards a sensible approach to conservation. The Guidelines are locally practical, yet meet international conservation benchmarks.

The document is based on simple principles, gives direct Standards for planning and specific Guidelines for Archaeological Sites, Buildings, Engineering Works and Landscapes.
